Una de las tantas razones por las cuales la Fortaleza de la Soledad existe, es debido al trabajo inspirador de grandes fans en el mundo. Mas allá de lo que significa Superman, está toda la gente que ve en su significado una manera de llevar su dia a dia.
Por esa razón la Fortaleza de la Soledad se dió a la tarea de entrevistar a una de esas personas que hicieron de su afición a Superman, una de las formas para conectar a gente alrededor del mundo.
Esta es la primera de muchas entrevistas que haremos a grandes fans de Superman en el mundo.
Uno de ellos es, sin lugar a dudas, Steve Younis, Líder de Superman Homepage, la primera página de Superman en Internet, que ha estado al aire desde Noviembre de 1994, en 14 años de información ininterrumpida.
A continuación la entrevista exclusiva para la FORTALEZA DE LA SOLEDAD.
FDLS: En primer lugar, muchas gracias por darnos el tiempo para esta entrevista.
FDLS: Cuéntanos un poco sobre tí.
Steve: Tengo 36 años de edad, soy Diseñador Gráfico / Web Designer y vivo en Sydney, Australia. He estado al frente de la página Superman Homepage desde hace más de 10 años, y he tenido la suerte de poder decir que he sido capaz de trabajar en Superman (también como webmaster para SupermanSuperstore.com) a tiempo completo desde hace 3-4 años .
FDLS: ¿Cuál es tu primer recuerdo de Superman?
Steve: Recuerdo haber ido a ver "Superman: The Movie" en la pantalla grande en 1979. Fuí de 7 u 8 años de edad. Solía levantarme para ver los "Super Amigos" de dibujos animados en la televisión los sábados por la mañana.
FDLS: ¿Qué significa Superman para ti?
Steve: Superman es un ideal. Algo que aspiramos. Él es una inspiración de cómo creo que deberíamos intentar llevar nuestras vidas. Hacer lo correcto simplemente porque es lo correcto.
FDLS: ¿Cuál ha sido la situación más divertida relacionada con ser un fan de Superman?
Steve: No sé acerca de divertida, pero la situación mas extraña en que he estado es que la gente viniera a mí para pedir mi autógrafo cuando asistí al Superman Celebration del 2003 en Metropolis, Illinois en los Estados Unidos. Era la primera vez en que algo así me pasaba, extraño pero excelente.
FDLS: ¿Admiras a otro personaje o saga?
Steve: Lo que se relacione con Superman y con los comics de Superman son los únicos libros de DC Comics que he comprado (como JLA, Supergirl), pero soy un gran fan de autores como Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Raymond Feist, Clive Barker. Me encanta programas de televisión como "Heroes", "Lost", "Supernatural" y "Stargate SG-1"
FDLS: En tus propias palabras, ¿qué significa Christopher Reeve para el Mito de Superman?
Steve: Christopher Reeve fue, y sigue siendo, mi Superman. Él es el con el que yo crecí. Su personalidad, su presencia, su fuerte espíritu, mostró a todos que él era no sólo un gran actor interpretando a Superman, sino tambien un gran hombre en la vida real. Fue verdaderamente una inspiración.
FDLS: ¿Qué esperas para la próxima película de Superman?
Steve: Estoy esperando más acción, pero no sea a costa de grandes momentos de los personajes. Me gustaría ver a Brainiac como el principal villano, posiblemente asociándose con (o traicionando a) Lex Luthor. Me gustaría ver poco (o nada) a Jason White, no creo que necesitemos un personaje de Super-chico, creo que tenemos que concentrarnos en Superman / Clark Kent. Estoy esperando un excelente auto-contenido repleto de acciones, una aventura de Superman que detenga el corazón.
FDLS: ¿Cuál fue la motivación para hacer un sitio web, como lo es la página Superman Homepage?
Steve: Yo en realidad no la hice. Andrew J Gould la hizo en 1994. Nos hicimos buenos amigos a través de Internet, y me hice cargo del sitio con su bendición antes de morir en 1996. En los 12 años desde entonces ha habido muchos cambios. El sitio está formado por miles de páginas, cuando originalmente era de 4 páginas como máximo. Pero la motivación para continuar y consolidar el sitio siempre ha sido mi pasión por Superman. Me gusta la recopilación de información sobre el personaje y es fantástico poder compartir esa información con otros fans.
FDLS: ¿Cuál es tu opinión acerca de la cantidad de sitios relacionados con el Hombre de Acero y en tantos idiomas diferentes?
Steve: Creo que es fantástico que Superman sea universalmente amado. Claro que Superman es un icono americano, pero él representa los ideales y valores que tienen las personas de todo el mundo. Es muy bueno que tantas personas sientan tanta pasión por el personaje que quieran crear un todo un sitio web sobre él.
FDLS: ¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro de la página Superman Homepage?
Steve: Siempre estamos tratando de insistir en el desarrollo cuando se trata de la página Superman Homepage. No estamos satisfechos con ser el Sitio N º 1 de Superman en el mundo, siempre se puede mejorar. Recientemente hemos lanzado nuestro boletín semanal "Speeding Bulletin" que son informes en vídeo, hacemos un podcast mensual, hemos intentado transmisiones en vivo, somos uno de los primeros sitios de fans de tener nuestro propio stand en las principales convenciones de historietas. Por lo tanto, estamos siempre ramificandonos, utilizando las nuevas tecnologías, para mejorar las cosas que podemos. First though, thank you very much for giving us the time for this interview.
FDLS: Tell us a little bit about you.
Steve: I'm a 36 year old Graphic Designer/Web Designer living in Sydney, Australia. I've been running the Superman Homepage for over 10 years now, and have been fortunate enough to be able say I've now been able to work on Superman (as webmaster for SupermanSuperstore.com) full-time for 3-4 years now.
FDLS: What's your first Superman memory?
Steve: I remember going to see "Superman: The Movie" on the big screen in 1979. I was 7 or 8 years old. I used to get up to watch the "Super Friends" cartoons on TV on Saturday mornings too.
FDLS: What does Superman mean for you?
Steve: Superman is an ideal. Something to aspire to. He's an inspiration for how I think we should try lead our lives. Doing the right thing simply because it's the right thing to do.
FDLS: What has been the funniest situation related to be a Superman fan?
Steve: I don't know about funny, but the weirdest situation I've been in is having people come up to me asking for my autograph when I attended the 2003 Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois in America. It was the first time that'd had ever happened to me, bizarre but cool.
FDLS: Do you admire any other characters or sagas?
Steve: Superman and Superman-related comics are the only DC Comics books I purchase (such as JLA, Supergirl), but I'm a huge fan of authors such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Raymond Feist, Clive Barker. I love TV shows like "Heroes", "Lost", "Supernatural" and "Stargate SG-1"
FDLS: In your own words, what does Christopher Reeve mean in the Superman Myth?
Steve: Christopher Reeve was, and still is, my Superman. He's the one I grew up with. His personality, his presence, his strong spirit, showed everyone that he was not only a great actor playing Superman, but a great man in real life. He was truly an inspiration.
FDLS: What do you expect for the next Superman movie?
Steve: I'm hoping for more action, but not at the cost of great character moments. I'd like to see Brainiac as the main villain, possibly teaming up with (or double-crossing) Lex Luthor. I'd like to see little (or no) Jason White, I don't think we need a Super-kid character, I think we need to concentrate on Superman/Clark Kent. I'm hoping for an excellent self-contained action-packed, heart-stopping adventure of Superman.
FDLS: What was the motivation for making a site such Superman Homepage?
Steve: I didn't actually make it. Andrew J Gould made it back in 1994. We became good friends over the internet, and I took over the site with his blessing before he died in 1996. The 12 years since has seen a LOT of changes. The site is now made up of thousands of pages, where originally it was 4 pages at most. But the motivation to continue and build the site from what it was has always been my own passion for Superman. I love collecting information on the character and it's great to be able to share that information with fellow fans.
FDLS: What do you think about the amount of sites related to the Man of Steel and in so many different languages?
Steve: I think it's fantastic that Superman is loved universally. Sure Superman is an American icon, but he represents ideals and values held by people all over the world. It's great that so many people feel passionate enough about the character that they want to create a website all about him.
FDLS: What plans do you have for the Superman Homepage future?
Steve: We're always trying to push the envelope when it comes to the Superman Homepage. We're not satisfied with being the No. 1 Superman site in the world, we can always improve. We recently launched our weekly "Speeding Bulletin" video reports, we do a monthly podcast, we've tried live broadcasts, we're one of the first fan sites to have our own booth at the major comic conventions. So we're always branching out, using new technologies, improving things where we can. So I guess that's the plan, just to keep trying to be better and have more fun, and make things more enjoyable and interactive for the fans.
